Walgreens Prescription Savings Club

For the past year Walgreens has been negotiating with Express Scripts to come to an agreement.  Negotiations failed and the contract came to an end on 12/31/2011.  As a result, Walgreens is no longer a part of the Express Scripts network.  Costs to the consumer may go up without Walgreens because they offer competitive pricing and savings through 90-day supplies of medications vs. three 30-day refills.  Walgreens and Express Script

Express Scripts could potentially offer substantial savings to its clients by promoting the 90-day refills at retail pharmacies but it conflicts with its own mail order subscription business that it profits from.

Many patients under an Express Scripts plan have been patients of Walgreens for many years and have a personal relationship with their pharmacist.  In an effort to minimize disruption and inconvenience, Walgreens has unveiled  a comprehensive national effort to make this transition as smooth as possible and is doing everything it can to help patients continue to use Walgreens when possible, and take care of them as they are forced to leave Walgreens in order to use their in network coverage. 

Only patients with certain insurance prescription plans managed by Express Scripts are affected.

Among the steps Walgreens is taking to minimize the disruption to their clients is offering a special discount on annual membership in its Prescription Savings Club.  This special JANUARY Promotion allows an individual to join for just $5.00 or a family to join for just $10.00 and receive savings on more than 8,000 brand name and all generic medications.  Regular annual membership is $20.00 for an individual and $35.00 for a family.  Family membership covers everyone in your immediate family, including a spouse, dependents 22 and younger and PETS.  Join now and receive discount prices on your prescriptions.  Walgreens Prescription Savings Club
